When there’s death, there’s always death
When there’s life, there’s light all along
For the treasure we had, left everyone else
In our greed, it shone above everything
My precious, we called; it betrayed everyone
Even the life out of ours, gone it was it
As was the death itself, now dwells in the plains
Unusually long we have lived, tired we are
For let us sleep, we long for the last rest
Whatever we did, in the name of love
We did it for the better of us, we tried
There once was life, we could see no more
Do not tell me I haven’t tried, good friend
Where were the hands when we slumped
When there’s death, there’s always death
Don’t say goodbye, for the love’s will
Let the light come to be, in the name of me
Gollum, Gollum, it says to thee
Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.
– Gandalf
The one character I could always linger in my mind is Gollum in Middle-earth, for its destiny shaped the will of Arda itself. It was the love that changed him into what he had become. One could even say it was a gambit by Eru himself.
